چکیده
not to speak or chew too much to prevent needle migration, which might be caused by facial muscle contraction. Therefore, when we performed the removal operation, the embedded needle was located 2 cm away from the opening (Fig. 4). In this case, the embedded foreign body had migrated. Acupuncture needles, fish bones, and broken dental needles are very hazardous foreign bodies that can migrate to other locations. Such migration can cause injury to critical structures or cause the foreign body to move to a deep layer where it may be difficult to remove. Almost all articles and case reports published thus far on this topic have reported the necessity of early surgical removal if the patient has exhibited any symptoms, irrespective of the size of the foreign object and its location with respect to a critical structure. Thus, early surgical removal of a sharp foreign object is important to minimize the risks that might be caused by the foreign body. There are many unlicensed individuals who perform acupuncture using unsafe materials, which can potentially lead to infections and can cause confusion with respect to the identification of the actual material of the embedded foreign object (Fig. 5). The embedded foreign body is likely to migrate, particularly in the facial area. Moreover, such migration may cause a critical injury. We are deeply concerned about the reality of the practice of acupuncture with inappropriate materials in certain cases. In light of the case presented here, we wish to direct the clinician’s attention to the risk of migration of an unsafe foreign object used in acupuncture and the need for an urgent removal operation, particularly when the object is embedded in the facial area.

497 procedure, since it enables the quicker recovery of sensation and aids in the prevention of the development of cold intolerance and discomfort. Of the many options available for reconstructing moderately sized to large defects of the palm of the hand and fingers, an innervated free groin flap combines a maximally concealed donor area with functional sensory recovery. It was this combination...
متن کاملGroin flap design and versatility.
The groin flap is a reliable and well-established reconstructive option for pedicled or free-tissue transfer. Concern regarding its variable vascular origin and caliber has limited its use. To overcome this, a simplified guideline based on the transverse diameter of the patient's index and long fingers at the distal interphalangeal level has been developed. Thus "rule of two finger widths" posi...
متن کاملDifferentiated Adipose-derived Stem Cells Promote Reinnervation of Rat Skin Flaps
BACKGROUND Sensory recovery of skin flaps is generally poor unless they are elevated as an innervated flap. The aim of this study was to elucidate if Schwann cell (SC)-like cells differentiated from adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) could improve the cutaneous nerve regeneration in skin flaps. METHODS Microvascular island groin flaps were elevated bilaterally in 32 Lewis rats. On the right fl...
متن کاملVein/Arterial Grafts Harvested within the Incision for a Free Groin Flap
The free groin flap results in less donor-site morbidity than other skin flaps and is suitable for use in children and adolescents. However, the vascular pedicle is relatively short and vessel diameter is small, which makes vascular anastomosis technically difficult. To overcome this limitation, we harvested vein and arterial grafts from the flap elevation area without placing additional skin i...
متن کاملAnatomical Background of the Perforator Flap Based on the Deep Branch of the Superficial Circumflex Iliac Artery (SCIP Flap): A Cadaveric Study
BACKGROUND The groin flap, based on the superficial circumflex iliac artery, was the first successful free flap. However, its popularity was lost essentially due to variable arterial anatomy. Clinical applications of perforator flap based on superficial circumflex iliac artery suggest that a dominant perforator based on his deep branch is enough to supply a large groin flap. METHODS Fresh cad...
متن کاملChimeric groin free flaps: Design and clinical application.
BACKGROUND Reconstruction of composite extremity defects or through-and-through oral defects remains challenging for surgeons. Chimeric flaps are ideal for repairing these lesions. In this article, we report the design of various chimeric groin free flaps for the reconstruction of both complex oral and extremity defects in 18 patients. METHODS Between 2010 and 2014, 18 patients with composite...
